Statement:
An object can be so thoughtfully designed that it evokes the spiritual without direct reference to content. The design, itself, is the content. This is what I aim to accomplish in the sculptures I make.

Object design (the shape of an object) and surface design (the skin of an object) are the two elements I combine to create a unique sculpture. The materials I use are generally industrial. The wood is construction lumber, deliberately chosen for its’ innate imperfections. The inconsistent grain creates subtle but unusual surface patterns. Wood is the foundation of each object. Paper twine, pins, nails, wire, copper.... any of these materials might serve a decorative and/or functional purpose. The paper twine and wood are painted and manipulated with acrylic paints and polymers. Both color and paint applications are essential elements of each sculpture.

It is important that what I create appears simple, no matter how complex in form; beautiful, no matter how unadorned; and fully present even though inanimate.
