Statement:
My work takes me from public commission, time-based installation and gallery exhibition to woodland workshops. I work with all natural materials: drystone, water, glacial boulders, wood, living willow, hedgerow cuttings, straw and paper maiche to create site-specific commissions, baskets, containers and smaller works. In each, I try to distill the essence of a place into the work, so that each becomes a small environment in its own right.

Pushing the Boundaries demonstrates that basketry is capable of inspiring and contributing to the dynamic and burgeoning Scottish contemporary craft scene. Pushing Boundaries features work by 20 artists including Lizzie Farey and the late Valerie Pragnell. Textual, tactile works Ð rooted in naturally grown traditional materials, yet embracing man made fibres and ÔfoundÕ objects, Pushing the Boundaries presents evocative shapes and imagery, delicate and lyrical forms Ð structures and ideas that extend the perception of what constitutes basketmaking today.
