Contemporary Fiber Artists
Maker Profile:
Jiro Yonezawa
by Graham Eccles & Val Burnett
2004, DVD, 45min
Odyssey

Traditionally trained in Japan, Yonezawa cuts and gathers bamboo, splits it and prepares strips. He weaves vibrant intricate sculptural forms in series which explore form, contrast and balance and the interplay of space and texture. Color is acheived by dying and applying lacquer to the bamboo. The Maker Profile series include artist interviews, studio visits and footage of the artists at work.
