At age 75, celebrated Canadian artist Mariette Rousseau-Vermette began to integrate optical fiber and fluorescent tubing into weavings of wool. It was a logical progression from Rousseau Vermette's studying with Dorothy Liebes more than 50 years before. It was Liebes who had declared a fabric" modern" if it "is created in terms of today, with material of today." This catalog combines a number of artists creating "modern" fiber art of such unexpected materials as stainless steel filaments and ropes, black and nickel-plated safety pins, brass, copper and coated wire and, of course, optical fiber.
