Art Textile of the World Book 1

FROM THE WOODS:
Dorothy Gill Barnes
Ohio Craft Museum
11" x 8", 72 pages, 2000

A remarkably inventive artist, Dorothy Gill Barnes is a basketmaker and sculptor. She works with natural materials – plaiting, coiling and weaving bark, and sometimes using a knife to mark live plants. When harvested months or years later, the resulting scars, which Barnes calls "dendroglyphs," are incorporated into forms that are fresh and unexpected. More than three dozen well-photographed works are included.
